angela & audrie!

march was crazy..
but angela told me not to worry..
i finally had some time over the weekend to work on her blocks..

and i ended up making 2 for her.

first i started with a square... and built around it..
and around.
i made the last border in different widths so it ended up being off center.
i like this one a lot!!

and for the second i started similar..

but then got a bit more "free" with my piecing.
i sewed the greys together with the green & white dot..
and then chopped them into strips.. and so on.
last step was adding the blues..
i just love the blue on blue dots!

then it was time to work on audrie's blocks.
and i had similar issues that other people did.
and let me just say.
audrie you are lucky i like you.. and fought through the bias for you!!

they aren't perfect.
but i think they look good!

and like i said on my blog...

"i'll never make this block again."

So....You send me fabric in my favorite colors, in some of the cutest prints, you tell me to do pretty much anything and I am supposed to have it done on time? You are asking a lot out of this fabric lovin' girl. :) These fabrics sat on my ironing board for weeks...I went in to iron them, then pet them and lay them out. Then I would get online and see what you ladies came up with, then back to the studio where I would pet them again, followed by a sigh. The horror of cutting into these cutie bits overcame me, and then I would have to leave the room.

Obviously, I overcame my fear and consumed with the guilt that I was hoarding other people's fabric, I took the plunge. I love all of the blocks you ladies have made, this is going to be one seriously cool quilt! I hope you like them Angela...I left a little wiggle room for you, and they were mailed yesterday :)

p.s. Audrie is so lucky her pretty fabric is pre-cut AND has a definitive design! She may just get them on time. :)

So how do I sash it - snow, ash, other? The back is going to be cool, too with all these little signature blocks!

Blocks For Angela

These blocks were so much fun to do :) And Angela, I must say your choice of fabrics are amazing!

This is the first one I did... it's a little more modern.

This one's a little more traditional but I thought what says right angles more than a log cabin! I kind of wish I didn't use the little green dots now because they throw off the right angles just a tad (I promise they're right angles though!)... but I do love dots and am always drawn to them in a pile hehe

What IS it about other peoples' fabrics?

bright, shiny, crisp, fresh

all that stuff

this month brought a bee beautiful package full of my favorite colors

colors that were already sitting on my counter

kona crush in that yummy blue

the exact shade of grey in plain kona

but yet these were

other peoples' fabrics

and then it hit me

that feeling we have all had, as quilters

"It's so beautiful, I can't cut into it"

Cmmon.

You've all done it.

Admit it.

and maybe Angela will get her blocks!

Here are my blocks for Angela. I loved working with this color scheme and if I had more fabric, I think I could have made you a whole quilt today, Angela. :)

Feel free to trim and position however you like. The blocks are over 13", so it should give you some wiggle room.

edit to add: I forgot to mention that it would be fine if you added something from your stash if it went with the green/blue/gray thing. Also, my layout has 16 blocks, so I won't be sad if you make me two but it isn't expected. Thanks!

I wish that was the weather forecast! I couldn't pass up the pun for my quilt. I'm up for March and all my fabric is ready to head out.

I decided the easiest way to describe what I want is '90 degrees' - no triangles or curves please. My fabrics are all greens, blues, and gray. Some of the packets tend more toward green, others blue. I calculated (for my stash report you know!) that I cut more more than 9 yards of fabric once done, so everybody should have a good selection.

I like funky, modern stuff - so that's the general feel I'm going for. I'm going to sash all the blocks up to 17" square, probably with the Kona snow. So Please:

make a block 12.5" min to 15.5" max - but it doesn't have to be a square
make all your pieces right angles
use at least one of the colored solids
make a signature block in any style you choose
return large scraps - I'll piece my block from them and piece the back, too

Christmas Shopping

My husband kept asking what I wanted for Christmas. I kept replying, 'A trip to the fabric store BY MYSELF.' He didn't think I was serious.

My inlaws live only a half hour from the Fabric Shack, so I had a ton of fun spending a good part of a day gathering bolts of fabric for lots of projects.

My month is March, and I'm one to plan everything to the nth degree, and early. [I think I'm done twitching over the thought of letting 11/12 of my quilt out of my hands!] Plus they had a coupon for 15% off, so see how much I saved?

A lucky find, Moda's 1974 was in their clearance loft. I found some great Michael Miller dots, lovely Nicey Jane, and Kona solids (that black-looking one is actually coal). I can't wait!
