Maverick Star Quilt

Thank you all so much for contributing such lovely blocks to this quilt!



I received the quilt back from the long arm quilter on Tuesday and sewed the last bit of binding on last night. I wish I would have taken a "before washing/drying" picture because the quilting is so pretty (my first experience using a long armer to quilt any of my projects). She did a fun daisy pattern with some wandering loops.






The quilt ended up being 70" x 84". I binded it with a teal flowery polka dot print and used a big pink polka dot print for the backing. It's such a fun and cheery quilt!






I'm passing this quilt along to my dad tomorrow so that he can give it to his coworker for the collection of quilts. Thanks so much for your contributions! I know that the girl at Children's Village who receives this will really appreciate the quilt!

one pretty quilt top! Thank you so much for putting together such cute blocks. I think they look great together and make for a fun patchwork quilt. I had a lot of fun seeing the different fabrics you chose up close and smelling the different detergents you used to pre wash your fabric while I was pressing the blocks.

I dropped it off with the long arm quilter today and it should be ready in a few weeks. If everything goes according to schedule, I'll be able to make the April 30 deadline.

I sort of forgot exactly when these needed to be done. I looked it up the night before last though, and I got them made and in the mail yesterday!

Charity Blocks

Charity Star Blocks

Finished my Maverick Star blocks today. That one on the bottom is bothering me a bit. Those bottom two points got a bit too short. At least I had three to make. Between figuring out how to get the colors were I wanted and the points a bit longer, it took me until the last block (the top one) to figure it all out. I really love how bright these are, especially on a very ugly, gray, rainy day.

Charity Blocks Done!

I finally got round to making the charity blocks... it's been on my list staring at me for the longest time. It took me quite a while to match fabrics, and even then I'm not 100% certain they're right! I think it's that block on the top right that's bugging me most because of the blue and teal sitting together. In person they don't look so similar but in the pic they just look like big blobs of blue.

Well, this color scheme is really working for me. I finished these blocks and immediately started making another bunch of blocks for another quilt just like these! These just feel so springy and alive to me. I seriously can't help myself. February in Michigan can suck the life out of a person(glad it's over) and with 4 consecutive days of sunshine all I want is bright sunshiny color.

Look for these in your mailbox tomorrow Rebekah! I've also included a little check to help cover the cost of binding, batting and backing. I really appreciate you putting this together, sounds like a really great cause. Can't wait to see the blocks the rest of you ladies put together...

charity quilt block.

I am having so much fun putting these colors together! What a great tutorial, I know I will soon have one of these quilts for myself! Anyway, I just wanted to touch base and make sure I am on the right track with these blocks, I have 2 more to go...

I am realizing now that I mixed up the placement of the middle row! The green block was supposed to be on the left so the two blues aren't right next to one another. See? it's a good thing I posted this. Self-editing at it's best. I'd better go find my seam ripper!

Maverick Start Charity Quilt

Okay, so it seems that all of you are on board for this charity quilt project.

Here's my initial idea for the quilt (feel free to jump in or revise as needed).

The quilt has to be twin sized (approx 68x86), so we will need 30 - 14.5" Maverick star blocks (pieced block size 14"), for a quilt that is 5 blocks wide and six blocks long. There are twelve of us, so if each of us makes 2 blocks, we'll have 24 blocks. If 6 of you want to volunteer to make 3 blocks each, then we'll have 30 total.

I came up with a general color scheme for the quilt:



The backgrounds of the blocks should be white and you can use any or all of the colors in the scheme for the star points and centers (all pink stars, teal and orange, all green, etc.). I was channeling the Flea Market Fancy line when I came up with that scheme (here's a picture of what I was going for), so any bright, fun, cheery fabrics would be great. Other colors are fine in the blocks, as long as at least one of the five colors above is dominant.

The quilts are due on April 30, so if you could get the blocks in the mail by April 1, I should have enough time to put everything together.
