I pooped myself the entire time I was working on this block. It was not a pretty sight.
I knew I could do this, but I was scared. Scared that I'd make a mess of it. Scared that I'd read the instructions wrongly and end up with something completely horrific. Just plain ol' scared.
But I have to say... It wasn't half as scary as I thought it'd be. I'm not saying it came out perfectly (Penny, I'm sorry it looks like it was sewn by a 5-year-old)... far from it. But it started to get fun by the middle, and by the end, greatly satisfying.
After finishing the block, it dawned upon me that I didn't mind the machine applique. The part I didn't like was turning the edges in 1/4 inch. That was sooooooo tedious. And I always think I'm going to iron my fingers or cook my fingers with the steam gushing out. I like to complain, don't I?
I added a couple of my own fabrics because I stupidly chopped up most of the scraps, not realising that I'd need much longer strips than I thought.
Penny, I hope you like it and I'm so sorry for the delay!

such a cute block! :)
ReplyDelete(and I use a glue stick for turning the edges... it is so much easier for me!... that's how I made the pieces for this: http://traceyjayquilts.blogspot.com/2010/05/pillow-talk-swapcheck.html)
Very nice! I worry about burning my fingers too, that steam gets mighty hot!
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful block.
ReplyDeleteit's awesome Audrie! and awww, you burned your fingers just for me?? that's so sweeeeeet!
ReplyDeleteso cute. I think it is deceptive... we aren't used to making such large blocks so it's hard to imagine how big the pieces need to be :)
ReplyDeleteglad your fingers are still in tact, Audrie!
